Planning Commission
The Planning Commission helps guide and manage growth of the city by serving as an advisory board to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. The Commission conducts public hearings for the purpose of obtaining citizen input and makes recommendations to the Board of Aldermen on Zoning, Conditional Uses and Subdivision of Land. They also serve as the Board of Adjustment for the city and have final authority on variances and approval of site plans. Long-range Comprehensive Planning as well as current planning is guide by the Commission. Commissioners are appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen and serve a four year term that coincides with the election calendar.
The Planning Commission meets once per month on the last Monday of the month, except in case of holidays or other unforeseen factors. Applications for Planning Commission action are due the first day of each month and should be submitted to the Planning and Development Department located in City Hall.
