Mayor’s Office

The Mayor’s Office is open from 7:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday.  Although the Mayor has an “open door” policy, he is extremely busy and may not be able to see you unless you have made an appointment.  However his assistant, Frances Williams, will be glad to help you with any issues you may have and direct you to the correct department. She will also be able to schedule you an appointment to see the Mayor.

Board Meetings - Mayor and Board of Aldermen meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of every month beginning at 6 p.m.  In the event you would like to address the Mayor and Board as a whole, you must submit your name(s) and a summary of the matter(s) to be presented to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen at least two (2) working days in advance of the meeting to the Mayor or City Clerk.


City Holidays - City Hall offices are closed on the following holidays:  New Year's Day (January 1), Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday (third Monday in January), President's Day (third Monday in February), Good Friday, Memorial Day (last Monday in May), Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day (first Monday in September), Veteran's Day (November 11), Thanksgiving Day and the day after Christmas Day and the day before or after any other day as may be proclaimed by the Governor and approved by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.  A recognized holiday that falls on a Saturday will be observed on the preceding Friday.  A recognized holiday that falls on a Sunday will be recognized on the following Monday.


Elections - You may register to vote in City Hall during normal business hours. All Municipal Elections are held every four (4) years.


Taxes - The City's current tax rate (millage rate) is 42.0 mill.  A mill is defined as one tenth of a cent.  The Tax Assessor for Desoto County assesses all taces and all taxes are paid to the Desoto County Tax Collector.  Therefore, you do not have to pay you Ad Valorem-Real, Auto and Personal Property Taxes at the City.  In order to determine the estimated taxes that will be due on your real property taxes you use the estimated appraised value of your residential property times 10% and that times 30.0%.  If you qualify for Homestead Exemptions, over 65 exemptions, Disabled exemptions with Desoto County, you will likewise be exempt from the City Taxes up to the amount allowed by State Law.


Utility Payments - All utility payments due to be paid to the City may be paid during normal business hours or in the night deposit located on the left wall right inside the first set of sliding glass doors anytime.


Privilege (Business) License - If you own or operate a business you must apply for a privilege license at City Hall during the normal business hours.  The privilege license is for one year beginning October of each year and must be renewed annually prior to October 1.
