Mission:  To seek funding from available sources that will enhance our city and provide Horn Lake with “quality of life” for future generations.

CURRENT PROJECTS

Assist the Horn Lake Animal Shelter with funding/donations.  The  shelter currently needs the following items:  Kennels, ,pet carriers, litter pans and kitty litter, small or medium dog houses, puppy and kitten food, cat and dog toys, feline leukemia test kits, heartworm test kits, vaccines and needles/syringes, towels, bleach, and general medical supplies/first aid.  Anyone wishing to make a donation should call “Friends of Horn Lake, Inc. “at 662-342-3482.

§ City Magazine – Write, edit, completed photography and layout design for our first ever Horn 

     Lake magazine.  First edition is now out titled “Mon Amour”.  Magazine is available   

     throughout Horn Lake businesses and may be picked up at City Hall “free of charge”.   

 

§ Administer the Friends of Horn Lake, Inc. a non-profit 501 (c) 3-organization allowing for

    100% tax deductions for allowable donations received.

Friends of Horn Lake, Inc. is a non-profit organization that is designed to encourage and pursue opportunities that will lead to the economic and social growth of the City of Horn Lake and its neighbors with projects and activities aimed at enhancing the City and surrounding communities.  Through the formation of this organization our City is able to receive donations from individuals and companies with a means of allowing the donation to be tax-deductible.

The Friends of Horn Lake is a civic organizations made up of citizens and businesses that have the vision for our City to see it grow and prosper and be a more attractive community for all.

§  Keep Horn Lake Beautiful – Mission:  To promote litter prevention and community

     involvement by changing attitudes to inspire city beautification.  Committee meets monthly,

    first Tuesday at City Hall, 2 pm.      Clean up scheduled for Friday, May 5th from 9:00 am – 12

    noon.  Volunteers and businesses are encouraged to join in on cleaning up our community. 

    Sub-committees are presently being formed.  Call for more information. 

Some of the many things that this organization is responsibly for are quarterly “litter” cleanups, beautification through “adopt a spot” projects; revitalization through grants for various parks, public education on littering, membership drives and “Yard of the Month” as well as “Business of the Month”

§  Seek state and federal grants for all city departments.

§   Assist in establishment of Boys & Girls Club.  Mission:  To inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. Serves as Vice Chair for DeSoto County Board and Vice President of Resource Development for Corporate Board. Special thanks to the following organizations for their donations:  American Fireworks, Auto Zone, Bancorp South, Community Bank, DeSoto County School Board, Fire Mountain Restaurant, First Tennessee Bank, Harley Davidson of DeSoto County, Inc., Landers Dodge, Landers Nissan, O’Reilly Auto Parts, People’s Bank, Roger Penske (United Auto Group) Sam’s Town Tunica, Schnuck’s, Southaven Pontiac, Texas Roadhouse Grill and Walmart Neighborhood Market.

§       MDOT Urban Youth Program – Administer and coordinate all activities as required. Presently accepting applications for youth ages 16-25 years of age for May-August 2006.  Must be enrolled in high school or college.  Call for more information.

§       Urban Forestry Grant – Administer and coordinate all activities required.
