Tommy Bledsoe, Parks and Recreation Director, as a NYSCA
Youth Sports Administrator has managed this department for over
nine years. Tommy and his staff take care of sixteen parks
in our City along with administering the baseball, softball,
football, basketball programs and all city events. Tommy
also is the EMA/Homeland Security Director for the City of Horn Lake disasters that
the City
may endure.
John Willoughby is the Park Athletics
coordinator and conducts the youth sports NYSCA clinic. He
has been with the city for three years and coordinates all
the athletic events , ensure that each activity is
efficiently carried out. John also is a professional golf
pro at T.O. Fuller.

Felecia Topp is the Parks
Administrative assistant / Office Manager for
the City of Horn Lake Parks and EMA department.
She is currently serving on the Arbor day and
the City Fall Festival committee.

Our vision as a Park and Recreation department
is to actively create, promote, and sustain an
environment that conducts a safe, clean, and
healthy public recreation program that we can
support in pursuit of personal growth in the
areas of sports wellness, and recreational
activities for our kids.

Currently, the City has fourteen (14)
existing parks located throughout the City including the
following:

Wooten Park - located off Nail
Road behind Horn Lake High School, containing 6 baseball
fields and tennis courts

Churchwood Park - located off Greeno, containing a swing set, slide, benches and a
baseball practice field

T. Burma Hobbs Park - located
off Pembrook Drive, containing a pavillion with a picnic
table and grill, swings and a jungle gym
-
Memorial Park - located off Hurt
Road, containing a lighted 3/8 mile walking trail, picnic
tables and grill
-
Greg Maxey Park - located on
Tulane Rd E, containing a 1/4 mile lighted walking trail,
picnic tables, benches, 4 exercise stations and a water
fountain

Latimer Lake Parks -
located at Nail and Tulane Road in Horn Lake features a
nature walking trail, four lighted tennis courts, nine
baseball fields, two football fields, three lakes, a
playground and outdoor skating. The skate park is
built for skateboards, bicycles and inline skates, the bowl
type skating park covers a half-acre site and features ramps
and slide rails.

Horn Lake Baseball
League
When spring
approaches, the City gears up for Dizzy Dean Baseball.
Sign-ups are open to children 3 to 16 years of age. The City
also provides a handicapped league. Ball sign-ups starting
mid-January end in mid-March. Games start April 1 and run
through mid-June.
Every year the
City holds the Beilstein Tournament to benefit St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital. Last year, 40 teams participated and raised
over $10,000. For more information on the City's baseball

National Youth Sports
Coaches Association (NYSOA) Certified Coach Continuing Education
Program
Tommy Bledsoe,
Parks and Recreation Director, as a NYSOA Youth Sports Administrator
offers coaches a Youth Sports Certification Clinic. The
program is designed to educate and sensitize volunteers to their
roles and responsibilities when working with youth in sports.
Most importantly, they will be held accountable to a strict code of
conduct, therefore raising the standards for youth sports in our
community. NYSOA is a program of the National Alliance for
Youth Sports. |
