The Horn Lake Planning Department is here to ensure that the city develops correctly in the future while simultaneously finding solutions to current issues stemming from inadequate design elements of the past. We will guide new developers in building to the highest standards that will benefit everyone in and around Horn Lake. As we continue to grow as a city, it is becoming more apparent how much of an impact each singular development has on both our natural environment and urban environment, so we are working towards putting more protections on these natural and built environments. Current issues being tackled now are flooding, drainage, lack of road connectivity, traffic congestion, and pedestrian safety, among other things. We strive to build a great city that will be safe and enjoyable to live, work, and play in. Help us grow toward this goal by meeting with the Planning Department to discuss any ideas you may have.
If you are proposing any new development or have any development questions, you may visit the Planning Department in person at City Hall, which is at 3101 Goodman Road West, Horn Lake, MS. You may also contact us by calling the main department number at 662-393-6705 or using the main department email at plandept@hornlake.org. To reach a specific person, please see the list of personnel. If you are needing an application for a permit or a license, please see our page that includes a link for all of our forms.
Building Inspections
If you are needing an inspection, please call the Planning Clerk at 662-342-3549 to schedule one, as our Planning Clerk creates the list of scheduled inspections for our Building Inspector, who is typically out in the field for the majority of each day.
Stormwater Issues
The drainage of storm water is a critical thing in Mississippi due to the normally copious amounts of rain the State receives. Northwest Mississippi is no different. Here are some important things to remember when thinking about drainage and storm water pollution:
Water pollution occurs when the above named practices are not adhered to. Poor practices can contaminate both groundwater and surface sources of water. Ingestion/consumption of polluted water can and does cause sickness, disease, and death in plants, animals, and humans.
